Keyed fiddler Daniel Pettersson and mandola-player Daniel Fredriksson has made music together ever since high school. Their stage debut as a duo was at a christmas concert in 1997, playing folktunes on consertpiano and electric guitar. And the collaboration continued...

Pettersson Now, the piano has been exchanged for keyed fiddles, and the electric guitars are replaced with mandola and lute. But the soul of that first performance still remain. Petterssons background in jazz and classical music, and Fredrikssons backpack of hardrock and metal is very evident in the duos music. On stage and on records Pettersson & Fredriksson combines their musical luggage of riffs, improvising and minimalistic composing with the deepest love and respect towards the traditions of folkmusic. Together they make contemporary music with feets planted deep in the soil of northern sweden, while their eyes and minds are floating around all over the world.

The duos first record ”Brand” (swedish for ”fire”) was released in 2002 on record label DRONE. ”Brand” featured mainly traditional tunes from Västerbotten. The record got good reviews and with it’s fierce playing and very heavy sound for an acoustic duo-album it left a mark in the folkmusic world.

The second album ”Virek” was released in 2005. ”Virek” is a word in an old dialekt from Västerbotten, meaning ”someone who has travelled far”. The record focused more on newly composed tunes and an even more experimental approach to arrangement and musical interaction.

In 2006 the duo teamed up with fiddlers Thomas Andersson and Maria Jonsson to record the album SLATTA 2006 on label Tongång. While not being an actual ”Pettersson & Fredriksson” album, rather a side-project, this record exclusively explored the traditional dance-tunes from Västerbotten and södra Lappland. The record has so far received rave reviews and an extensive media coverage.

Summer 2010 saw the release of the duos third album: SOTALI. Head over to the media section to listen to it streamed, and please consider purchasing a download or physical CD.
